Writing Essentials (If You're Me)

Some reminders to myself about what I think is important when I write. These may not be the same for anyone who is not me.

The Essentials:

A three act structure in scenes, issues and arcs.

Rising action through the entire book

Every character should be a character – give some thought to who they are and what they want and why they are where they are. Try to make them distinct.

Issues and arcs should have an emotional core – they should make the main characters feel something, and examine some part of their personality.

Maybe not essential, but worth thinking about:

Mind your page turns, but don’t be too obsessed with them.

End on a cliffhanger or a badass moment each issue.
